️⃣Being a tester is very simple! It is true that compared to the developer’s work, the tester’s tasks are a little more “leisurely”, due to the following reasons: Without a tester, developers can still make software products. If there is no developer, there is no software to test, meaning that the testing job will not exist. It is difficult to define what is “test done”. For example, the same product over a period of two hours, the hardworking and ‘minded’ tester can test up to 50 test cases, but the lazy tester only tests 30 cases. And in both cases, there may still be bugs. However, the tester job also has many specific pressures as follows: Tester’s workload is not light, and must regularly work overtime no different from developer. Let’s take an example of a regression test. In the case of maintenance, in order to change the functions of existing systems, it only takes developers half an hour to add/remove/edit a feature, while the tester has to test for a week after that is not uncommon. Testers are most afraid of system upgrade projects like that when fixing a single line of code can kill the whole system. Because for large/old systems, a small change can cause a complex impact on many different parts or even the whole system. A tester needs to have a deep understanding of product operations, end-users, as well as software development knowledge. Only when doing so can the tester do the following: – Understand how the system works, and then know the reasons why the system does not work. – Understand the work of the developer better, cooperate better with the team.
️⃣The salary of the tester is low. Perhaps with the fresher or junior position, the salary of the tester is not really high. However, a good and experienced tester can completely reach a salary of 1000-3000 USD/ month. This salary is not low compared to other professions, right? Especially for senior positions or with ISTQB certificate and high language ability, the income is extremely high.
️⃣Tester only does “post-production” work. According to popular opinion, the tester only participates in the final stage, when the software is almost complete. It is only the responsibility of the tester to ensure that the final product meets the initial requirements. However, I personally think that testers should join earlier, in both the “pre-production” and “production” stages as this will help to minimize risks and errors in product development. This means that when the product is nearly completed, testing will detect fewer bugs, save more resources, limit the need to fix bugs or regression testing (which is time-consuming, dangerous, and much more dangerous if the area under test is wrongly defined).
️⃣Developer and tester can’t work together? Development and testing are two essential processes of software development, helping to create products that meet the user’s requirements. If you know how to set a common goal to improve product quality, then the developer and tester will support and help each other a lot. Besides, in the current period, with the popular application of DevOps and Agile, along with the strong development of automation tests, the gap between developer and tester is probably narrowing.
️⃣If you are male, you should not be a tester! A common fact is that a lot of girls follow the testing job, because of some gender characteristics such as carefulness, meticulousness, patience, care, and so on. However, boys can completely follow testing jobs and can do very well. Because at present, there is a lot of demand for game testers, mobile testers, and automation testers, especially automation test. Currently, the demand for automation test recruitment is high and salaries are also high, but there are few people who follow the automation test career as it requires good programming thinking. In addition, in many large foreign companies, a tester often holds fairly professional positions and must be equipped with a solid understanding of development, systems, products, technology, and so on in order to become a tester. So tester is a profession that anyone who is passionate can do and should do. In short, whether a male or a female can be a tester, and the tester job does not distinguish between males and females.
